The method
My approach to strategy and transformation is different from other consultants. I'm less concerned with what we make, and more concerned with the process to get there. That's because strategy isn't something organisations have - it's something people do.
Strategy is the product of many daily choices. These choices will either line up in the same direction, or they won't. Working with me improves your odds the small actions of many will line up with the big priorities you've set as an organisation.
That's partly because we'll land on just three or four priorities for the whole organisation to focus on (really!) and partly because we bring everyone into the process and get them excited about it, once the direction is clear.
For good, actionable strategy, we need:
- Clarity on our direction of travel and medium-term priorities to align effort.
- Coherence in our business systems and processes to enable our goals.
- Commitment from leaders and stakeholders to our purpose
- Capability to execute transition, navigate change, make decisions and maintain perspective.
All of these things are important, but they do exist as part of a hierarchy: strategy and systems need to shift first, then leadership, then capability.
