What chronic uncertainty is doing to our careers and lives

A Friday Flurry on the state of work and what it might do to us

Welcome to another Friday Flurry. I've been back from the US for two weeks now - the trip that spawned this melancholy reflection on meaning - and back into the swing of things with life and work.

In this Friday Flurry I explain why I'm worried about the state of work, update you on how my novel is going, and dish on what I've been reading lately - with a top pick to keep your brain engaged in this ghastly weather.

Before I do, I want to thank you for your ongoing support. It's a nightmare to do anything that involves an audience right now. Online reach has cratered, and keeping people keen without manipulative advertising, social slop and shitty make-it-hard-to-leave tactics is hard-going.

Beyond that, I'm often torn between my polarising desires to connect with you and to not contribute to more content and overwhelm. I've been writing to you once or twice a week for over eight years now and every time someone signs up, goes paid, renews their subscription, or emails in, I breathe a sigh of relief and joy. Then I keep going. You rock. Thank you.
