WHAT'S INSIDE

Friday Flurry is a behind-the-scenes newsletter for paid subscribers.

In this Friday Flurry, I consider how a thought-leadership business, fuelled by the internet, has rotted my brain - and how I'm trying to stop the rot.

I've been a "thought leader" for years now. I became D-grade LinkedIn famous when I was 29 years old. At the risk of sounding like an ungrateful millennial wanker... I think it's been bad for me. Packaging your brain into a value proposition sounds great, until the value proposition invades your brain.

Marshall McLuhan said "We shape our tools and thereafter our tools shape us." I shaped my thoughts for commerce, then commerce began to shape my thoughts.

As I transition to a writing-centric practice, it's becoming obvious that years of writing to persuade, attract and convert have rotted my brain. Business has rotted my brain. The internet has rotted my brain.

Cutting you off quickly here. This unfiltered flood of confession and uncertainty is only suitable for my nearest and dearest.
