We'd see more fairness and nuance in our decisions if we talked about class.
You probably already know what most people in your organisation or stakeholder base think, perhaps without asking. To balance things out, you might have a cultural competence programme. A gender equity initiative. An accessibility policy. But where's the Breaking Down Bogan Barriers action plan?
Class is the invisible and unchartered frontier of diversity and inclusion. We don't acknowledge it at work - or anywhere, really. It's still culturally acceptable to punch down on bogans, and we still cling to the myth of the meritocracy.
Class consciousness would change that. We need to talk about class.
