Why did they tell me otherwise

Welcome to 24 Days of Unpopular Opinions. In this series, enjoy an advent calendar of daily hot takes to help you get through the silly season.

Growing up, I heard a common story about my people. Kiwis, I learned, were hard workers.

People who'd never left the country explained, with confidence, that New Zealanders get snapped up for jobs overseas, because of how hard we work.

False. We are probably the personality hire.

Nobody here works very hard. I suspect we resent working at all, which is where all the pissing and whinging comes from.

(Fair enough. Work's dumb and this country pays like shit.)

Merry Christmas.
